Leaping Into the Unknown

KAYDI: Hey Christine, what's your address in UG
CHRISTINE:
      [some mailing address]
      Kampala, Uganda
KAYDI: no I need your home address
CHRISTINE: In Uganda we don't have home addresses, so we list only our mailing address
KAYDI: so, if someone's coming to pick you up, where do you tell them to go
CHRISTINE: LOL, when you get to UG, you'll see!!!

Since I know not yet where I'm going (yet), I may as well start with why I'm going:

When I came to Grinnell in August 2010, I met  Christine and we spent a considerable amount of time talking about the similarities and differences between Uganda and Jamaica. Uganda then became the next place I wanted to visit and thanks to the kindness of my sponsors [The Lilly Foundation/Grinnell College] I am destined to be the next voluntourist!

While I'm in UG, I will be working with Africa Youth Ministries (www.aymu.org) and I will be paying close attention to a couple of things:
1. Ugandan's reactions to me, a Jamaican "outsider", working alongside them.
2. The workings of a Christian NGO in development.
3. The success of the organization in general.

Since I don't have pictures just yet I thought this one would suffice for now:
I have a very skewed idea of what to expect and I will admit I'm nervous about the uncertainties but EXCITED for the new experience!
